USA Games Spotlight: Brett Laza

It’s safe to say Brett Laza of Western San Bernardino has a love of all things fast.

Whether it’s his favorite superhero or athlete, the theme is speed. So, it should come as no surprise that the track star has lofty goals when he competes this summer at the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games in Seattle.

“I am proud to be one of the athletes and I want to try to win a gold medal,” said Brett, who has autism.

But the medal wouldn’t just be for himself. Brett will be competing in honor of his grandfather, who passed away last August.

“I want to give it to him,” Brett said.

At just 26 years old, he has accomplished so much including bringing the Flame of Hope back from Greece prior to the 2015 Special Olympics World Games. Get to know more about Brett as we continue to celebrate Autism Awareness Month:
