#SundaySpotlight: Christina Principe

Christina Principe - Swimming - Special Olympics Southern California - 2018 USA Games Training Camp - Long Beach State University - Mar. 24, 2018

Christina Principe idolizes swimmer and 23-time Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps. She hopes to turn in her own medal-worthy performances this summer at the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games in Seattle.

The 39-year-old from San Diego County does it all, including the freestyle, butterfly, breaststroke and backstroke. More impressively, she competes while legally blind in her right eye and with only partial vision in the left eye.

A self-described fish in the water, Christina enjoys everything about her time in the pool and cannot wait to compete.

“I’m excited to do this,” she said.

Christina was heavily involved in athletics going back to her high school days. She ran cross country and track and field, in addition to swimming and water polo.

After hearing about Special Olympics through a regional center in her area, Christina decided to give it a shot.

Three years later, she still “loves it.” Get to know more about Christina:
