USA Games Spotlight: Kiana Yep

Swimmer Kiana Yep embodies the strength of a Special Olympics athlete.

Kiana, who uses a wheelchair, powers her way through the water — and it’s helped her and 65 other Special Olympics Southern California athletes make it to the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games. The Games will be held July 1-6 in Seattle.

Special Olympics not only provides the athletes a platform to compete, but in cases like the USA Games it brings athletes from all over together. That’s one aspect Kiana enjoys, in particular.

“I like to see other cultures,” she said.

Kiana’s favorite event is the 50-meter butterfly, and that’s one of three she will compete in at USA Games. She also will take part in the 50 backstroke and 50 freestyle.
