Celebrating 10 Years of the 2015 World Games: Fabiola Aceves Shines On and Off the Court

As we prepare to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the 2015 Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles at this year’s Summer Games, June 6–8, we’re shining a spotlight on the inspiring athletes who made that event unforgettable like Fabiola Aceves.

Fabiola, who hails from Mexico, has been a dedicated athlete for over 15 years, competing in basketball and tennis with passion and pride. Her journey reached a global stage in 2015 when she was selected to represent her country at the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles.

“I couldn’t believe it,” Fabiola said, recalling the moment she was selected. “Never before had I played at the World Games.”

Fabiola competed in tennis and brought home not one, but two silver medals—one in singles and one in doubles. “It was very fun,” she said, smiling as she remembered the thrill of the Opening Ceremony and being featured on ESPN.

Her story didn’t end in 2015. Fabiola has continued to compete at both the local and national levels. In 2018, she played at the National Games in Seattle, Washington, helping her basketball team secure third place and adding another medal to her growing collection.

As we reflect on a decade of impact since the 2015 World Games in Los Angeles, athletes like Fabiola remind us of the power of sport to uplift, unite, and inspire. Her determination, joy, and continued commitment to excellence are a true celebration of what the Games stand for.

Join us at the 2025 Summer Games, June 6–8, as we honor the past, celebrate the present, and look ahead to an even more inclusive future together.
