Summer Games isn’t just about athletic achievement—it’s also a celebration of creativity, inclusion, and the incredible talents of our athletes. Among the contributors to this year’s event is Jonny Pierce, a multi-talented athlete and the official Featured Artist of the 2025 Summer Games.
Jonny hails from Torrance, California, and has been part of the Special Olympics community since 2010. While many know him for his athletic skills in golf, volleyball, and swimming, Jonny’s artistry is gaining equal recognition—and for good reason. His vibrant, heartfelt artwork captures the spirit of the movement, blending passion and purpose with every brushstroke.
“I have always loved to draw and paint things that interest me,” Jonny shared. His favorite inspirations? “Waves and the ocean and the mountains… all kinds.”
That deep connection to nature and emotion is clear in his pieces, which often blend powerful symbols of sport with peaceful imagery from the natural world.
One of Jonny’s standout pieces honors SOSC founder Rafer Johnson, depicting him mid-speech with a reflective tabletop mirroring the moment. This artwork pays homage to our heritage and celebrates Rafer’s visionary leadership of the movement.
Beyond his talents on the field and canvas, Jonny is a world traveler, a train enthusiast, and a piano player—proof that creativity and curiosity fuel every part of his life.
When asked what inclusion means to him, Jonny answers with clarity:
“Inclusion to me is letting me train and compete as an athlete, and that I am treated the same as everyone else.”
That simple yet powerful statement reflects the very heart of the Special Olympics mission.
You’re invited to experience Jonny’s work in person at the 2025 Summer Games on June 7 and 8. His art will be on display for all to enjoy—a celebration of vision, determination, and the beauty of inclusion. Attendees will have the opportunity to take home exclusive commissioned pieces created for Summer Games by purchasing raffle tickets on-site. Tickets are available for $5 each or five for $20.
As Jonny reminds us, in both sport and art, it’s not only about winning—it’s about being brave in the attempt.
