Summer Games Eve – Witness The Passion

The 48th annual Summer Games arrives onto the campus of California State University, Long Beach tomorrow morning (June 10). They officially begin at 9:30 a.m. with the Opening Ceremony.

Here is an update on what you need to know to attend one of the greatest sport traditions in Southern California.

Come early and stay late. While official activities don’t start until 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, there is plenty to do and see. CLICK HERE for a look at everything going on outside the competitions. Live entertainment, booths, athlete health services (Healthy Athlete Village), and more, will be available. All events are free to the public, unless otherwise noted.

Speaking of coming to the Games: Parking. The larger parking lots on the CSULB campus, Lots 14a and 14b, are CLOSED for construction. We suggest you take a look at the Summer Games Map for alternate parking options. There are plenty to choose from, just plan ahead.

Competitions begin at noon on Saturday and run until 5 p.m. On Sunday, they begin at 8 a.m. with basketball and run through 3 p.m. Closing Ceremony is at 3 p.m. For detailed competition schedule, visit SOSC.org.

Follow the games live throughout the weekend through social media and online through WeAreSOSC.org and SOSC.org. Watch for live streaming via Facebook throughout the weekend, including Opening Ceremony and Breakfast With Champions, as well as events from various venues. In addition, Albertsons Vons Pavilions will stream via their Facebook accounts the massive undertaking of volunteers required to feed 1,100 athletes, live early Saturday morning.

Get further involved with the game as a Summer Games Witness. While at the games, like us on Facebook (SpecialOlympics.SoCal) or follow us on Twitter and/or Instagram (@SOSoCal) and then use hashtag #SOSCSG or #WeAreSOSC in a post with a photo of you and anyone you are with at the Games. Once we find you, you will get an official collector’s item Summer Games pin. Free. Cheer on the most inspirational athletes in Southern California and be a Summer Game Witness.

Already follow or like us? No problem. Post your picture, use the hashtags and you will get that pin.

The pin will go to the owner of the social media account. Friends want one too? Then have them follow and post.
