LONG BEACH, Calif. (July 16, 2017) – The concept is simple: put together a team of 25 and pull a plane 12 feet. Throw into the mix a FedEx 757 cargo plane weighing more than 124,000 pounds. Now that is a unique challenge that helps raise funds for Special Olympics Southern California (SOSC) athletes.
The 2017 Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) Plane Pull© will be held Sunday, Aug. 19 at Long Beach Airport. It will be the 12th year for the event and the goal is to have 50 teams raise $150,000 for SOSC Athletes.
But the Plane Pull has become much more than 12 feet.
The Plane Pull is a family event with festivities for people of all ages. Here is what you can expect for the 12th annual LETR Plane Pull:
THE PLANE PULL
This is a fun team competition to see which group of 25 can pull a FedEx airplane 12 feet the fastest. At the Plane Pull, you’ll test your strength, stamina, and heart, but no skill level is required to participate. All proceeds from the Plane Pull will support the more than 30,700 people with intellectual disabilities who train and compete in life-changing sports programs.
Create or join a team and test your might with co-workers, family and friends. Teams must be made up of 25 people. The minimum commitment for a team is $1,250. Individual participants are more than welcome to participate. At the event, individuals will be assigned to a team. The commitment per individual is $50.
Register for the Plane Pull at SOSC.org/PlanePull.
After registering, each team will be paired up with one SOSC athlete who will be the 26th member of your team. They will be the Honorary Captain for your team with various duties including sending motivating messages to your team prior to the event and being included in the team photo following your two pulls. If you would like an athlete to speak to your group or organization to help you recruit team members or solicit donations, please contact Luke Farnell at firstname.lastname@example.org or 562.502.1038.
