The Eve of We Run The City – What to Know

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Heading into the weekend, nearly 1,700 runners have registered to be a part of the sixth Special Olympics Southern California fundraiser, We Run the City 5K/10K. The annual rivalry run presented by The Smile Generation is tomorrow, Sunday, Nov. 19, at Wilson Plaza on the UCLA campus.

As we enter the eve of the We Run the City, let’s take a look at some questions you might have heading into race day.

Q: Date & Location of event?
A: Event is Sunday, Nov. 19 on the UCLA Campus – Wilson Plaza

Q: Where is registration/packet pick-up and when does it open?
A: It’s in Wilson Plaza. It opens at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday. Sorry, no early pick-up.

Q: Tomorrow is race day, but I am not registered. Am I too late?
A: NO! Join us for an amazing day. You can register on site.

 

Q: What time do the races start?
A: 5K/10K: 8:30 a.m.; Kids: 9:15 a.m.

Q: How far is the kids’ race and do they get a medal?
A: It is a quarter mile, and yes they get a medal!

Q: What happens if we ordered a USC shirt but want a UCLA one or the other way around?
A: You can swap it. Don’t wear the shirt you have. Then after the race, go to registration tent and exchange it?

Q: What happens if the shirt size doesn’t fit — can we exchange?
A: Yup, exchange it after the race. Again, don’t wear the shirt you have.

Q: Where do we park?
A: Parking Structure #4, 221 Westwood Plaza Dr. Los Angeles, CA 90095

Q: How much is parking?
A: $12 (paid to UCLA). Cash and credit cards are accepted.

Q: Is handicapped parking free?
A: No

Q: What happens if I bought virtual but now want to run the race?
A: Come on down and race with us!

Q: Can my child run on the 5K course with me?
A: Yes, but they have to be registered to run the 5K.

Q: What time will the event end?
A: 11:00 a.m.

Q: What time is the flag football game?
A: 9:30 a.m.

Q: How can I participate in flag football?
A: The players are pre-selected. However, we need Fans in the Stands. So come on out and cheer on your team!

Q: Is the course stroller/wheelchair friendly?
A: Yes, we just ask that you start towards the back.

Q: If I don’t make my fundraising goal do I have to pay out of my own pocket?
A: Nope, fundraising is optional, and encouraged. Just your entry fee is mandatory.

Q: If I can’t make the race, could I change to a virtual race?
A: Yup! Just email lfarnell@sosc.org NOTE: A shipping fee may apply. More info CLICK HERE.

Q: Could I transfer the bib to a friend if I can’t run it?
A: No, however, you can switch to the virtual race.

Q: I bought my race at an expo, but can’t find my name. What do I do?
A: If you can show proof, there won’t be any issue. All the names from the expo booths have been put into the system, however, sometimes we can’t read an email address, etc.

Q: Could I run with my child in the kids’ race?
A: Yes!

Q: Where do I pick up my fundraising swag?
A: Pick-up your gear at the incentives tent at the center of Wilson Plaza.
