LONG BEACH, Calif. – The calendar has turned to March and it brings with it a busy schedule that is loaded with opportunities in the many schools throughout Southern California. As of today (this first day of March), there are more than 20 events scheduled within Special Olympics Southern California, and it will get off to a snowy start in the mountains this Saturday.
Highlighting the start of the month with be the Big Bear Polar Plunge benefiting the athletes in the Inland Empire on March 3. The Polar Plunge is a unique opportunity for individuals, organizations, and anyone to support persons with intellectual disabilities by running, walking or dancing into the chilly waters at Big Bear Lake. And it will be an extra chilly one as snow is in the forecast.
Eight days later, floor hockey will take center stage with the 2018 Floor Hockey Championships at The RINKS in Huntington Beach. This is the first year for the Floor Hockey Championship in its own season, moving from the fall sports season to the “winter season.” It is the culmination of regional training and competitions for athletes from across Southern California who will compete for gold, silver, and bronze medals and ribbons.
Dominating the schedule this March will be events in the schools. LAUSD will hold its unified sports basketball championships while Orange County, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Santa Clarita will host various spring school games.
