We are deeply saddened to share that Shae Lopez, at the age of 33, passed away following a tragic car accident over the weekend. All of us at SOSC will miss her so much.
For nearly six years, Shae worked in the Sports & Programs Department. She was passionate, fun, and caring. In a short time, she made a huge impact. She had so much pride with being one of SOSC’s Spanish-speaking staff members and helping to bring SOSC to underserved communities. She was instrumental in reaching Spanish-speaking athletes and families in Ventura and throughout Southern California. She was always eager to assist people with learning more about SOSC. Most recently, she had been fielding calls and emails for the Return to Activities hotline. Her organizational skills helped athletes and volunteers find and participate in programming during a very challenging time. But what stood out the most was the relationships she built with athletes, families, volunteers, staff, and so many more people. Her zeal for the Special Olympics mission showed in every conversation she had.
Please keep Shae’s family in your thoughts as they go through this difficult time. We are in touch with the family and will notify you as soon as we hear any information on their plans to memorialize and honor Shae. Please respect their privacy at this difficult time, and if you have any questions, please contact SOSC team member Chasen Eddow at firstname.lastname@example.org.
